CALCUTTA, JUNE 28: Mohammedan Sporting sneaked into the semi final edging past Tata Football Academy 1-0 by a solitary late second half goal in a McDowell Cup Group A8217; exchange here today.

Veteran Aslam Parvez scored a spectacular winner in the 79th minute propelling his side to the second spot in the Group with three points from two matches. They will take on the champion of Group B8217; in the first semi- finals on July 1.

Bagan, who humbled Sporting 3-0 in their league opener and then overcame Tata Football Academy 2-0, topped the Group with six points and will clash with the Group B8217; runners-up on July 2.

Parvez8217;s goal came in the 78th minute when his diagonal rising 22-yarder dipped and entered the far corner of the net much to the relief of around 15,000 Sporting supporters at the Salt Lake Stadium.

The Calcutta outfit, despite having a porous defence and a colourless midfield, could have won by a bigger margin had their forwards not squandered a number of scoring opportunities.

The match,on the other hand was absorbing for most part of the opening half, with the ball constantly travelling from one end to the other, but the TFA boys seemed in deep waters in the second half, allowing sporting to wrest the intitiative.
