
At a time when many airlines are taking steps to save on increasing costs, no-frills carrier SpiceJet has announced a fresh round of low fares starting at as low as Rs 99 across its network.
8220;We want to encourage people to continue to fly in these hard times to close their business deals and visit their families and friends,8221; SpiceJet Chief Commercial Officer Samyukth Sridharan said in a statement today.
SpiceJet8217;s step comes even as the civil aviation industry is facing a major downturn and increased costs. In fact, not long ago many airlines have hiked their fares. SpiceJet8217;s special fares would be available till tickets last and bookings are open till March 2009, a statement from the airline said today.
Meanwhile, Wadia-controlled Go Air will be inducting eight new aircraft by November next year which will take its fleet size to ten.
According to Go Air CEO Edgardo Badiali, the company had recently inducted two Airbus 320s and will induct another four by March next year. The company which currently operates with a fleet size of seven aircraft, of which five are leased, and clocks an average of 56 daily flights will eventually replace its leased older aircraft with the new Airbus 320s.
8220;We8217;ll induct another four by March next year. After that two more aircraft will be inducted between May and June next year and another two by October-November next year,8221; said Badiali.
