
GANDHINAGAR, MARCH 23: Claiming that not a single Dalit family had migrated from the State since the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP came to power in March 1998, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Fakirbhai Vaghela announced over half-a-dozen sops for the Dalits.
He said their monthly stipend would be Rs 1,000 in the first year, Rs 800 in the second year and Rs 600 in the third year while the senior advocate training them would be paid Rs 500 per month.
He also announced that those SC members figuring in the lists of district rural development agency or the urban development authority would not have to present income and caste certificates with their various applications from April 1, 1999. Another major announcement made was that SC students of private schools with brilliant academic record would be given tuition fees of Rs 250.
Besides, loan for commercial pilot training to SC candidates has been trebled from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh while the monthly food bill allowance of SC students in medical college hostels would be doubled from Rs 250 to Rs 500 per month. The Minister announced that remuneration for Balwadi managers would be increased from Rs 700 to Rs 1,200, for ferry women it would be raised to Rs 700 from Rs 300 and the breakfast allowance would be increased from Rs 400 to Rs 600.
