Senior police officers say Pravinsinh took to bootlegging about 10 years ago. His notoriety earned him two stints in jail under the Prevention of Anti Social Activities Act, the first in 2003 and the second, more recently, in February 2007. Pravinsinh is also accused of criminal intimidation, rioting and Arms Act violations he fired at police officers trying to arrest him. Since Pravinsinh is yet to be convicted of any of these crimes, he got away without mentioning the cases against him in the election affidavit, said Kalol election officials.
