8226; My heart bleeds for those killed and injured during the birthday bash of 8216;Lalchi Tandon8217;. The thousands who were ready to give up their lives for a sari costing less than 50 rupees have certainly answered the question: Is India Shining? For the politicians who have amassed millions at the cost of the illiterate public, yes it is shining. But for the millions and millions below the poverty line who are not sure where their next meal will come from, it is a farce.

Judges of vision
8226; Hats off to our Supreme Court judges 8216;Highest courts sets Best standards8217;, IE, April 13. May God give them the strength to uphold the law and make sweeping legal reform.

8226; We should all feel proud about the high standards and best justice from our higher judiciary. As in the Best Bakery case, hopefully some day the murderers of more than 3,000 Sikhs in the Capital alone will be brought to justice.

The real story
8226; I was really glad to read the news report, 8216;Grim Indian shadow under Kuala Lumpur8217;s Petronas Towers8217; IE, April 12, highlighting the problems prevailing here over the last three or four years. In spite of my repeated requests to the Indian and Malaysian authorities, nothing much has been done about it. Being an Indian working here over the last four years, I will certainly support the argument that our IT workers need our respect. But, at the same time, I would also like to attract your attention to several unhappy developments. One, Indian mafia networks are now bringing candidates here with the promise of lucrative jobs after taking a healthy processing fee from them and leaving them to fend for themselves.
In Malaysia, some 40-45 per cent of Indian software personnel are violating the norms governing such recruitment resulting in Malaysia8217;s law enforcement department taking action against them. The Brickfields area, with its famous 8216;Palm Court Apartment8217; is the nest for all these illegal immigrants. You will be surprised to see 15-20 people staying in a three-room apartment here. Only two or three individuals out of the whole lot, actually have a job. The rest are all idle and are often sucked into criminal activity. I hope newspapers like yours generate awareness about the situation here and present a true picture of the reality. It is not as if Malaysia has plenty of jobs and that every one coming here will land one.

Ethics, first
8226; The concern of the HRD ministry is understandable 8216;HRD turns to e-mode for exam8217;, IE, April 12. It is also true that the probability of such leaks may be reduced by using electronic means. However it is naive to assume that preparing question papers on CDs and e-mailing them would eliminate leaks altogether. CDs can also be copied and servers hacked. Electronics is no a substitute for ethics.

Congress8217;s Sukh
8226; Another prized corrupt catch, another feather in the corrupt Congress8217;s cap 8216;Sukhram joins Congress8217;,IE, April 13. The talent which the Congress is getting definitely points to a bright future for the party.
