Managing businessThe Poona Business School (PBS) opened its doors on February 20, with its campus based in Koregaon Park. The institute will be offering courses in management, education, aviation, shipping and destination management, among others. Conceived by various people from different sectors of the industry, PBS also has a branch in Mumbai.Body, mind and beyondThe Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, Pune, the youth wing of the Chinmaya Mission is organising a youth camp on February 28 at S P College. The camp will be divided into segments. Session I will focus on `Your body is worth its weight in gold' and session II on mental health. The last session will concentrate on self-realisation and self-knowledge.Initiating leadershipThe Rotary Youth Leadership Awareness (RYLA) held a programme at the Sant Gadge School on February 14. Twenty-five members of the school attended the programme along with the teachers. A number of topics were covered with experts from various fields giving lectures. Some of the topics covered were leadership in action, effective communication and effective public speaking.A hearty gestureThe Innerwheel Club of Pune Central arranged a special Valentine's Day programme for the senior citizens on February 14. Residents of the Eventide Home, Sandhya Home and other similar old-age homes were invited for the cultural programme followed by high tea.A musical treatA charity show was organised by the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali's SPM English School recently. A music concert was also organised where Shaunak Abhisheki performed. All the songs performed were composed by late Jitendra Abhisheki.Eco-friendly messagesThe results of the Green Heart slogan contest, held by the Rotary and Innerwheel clubs of Pune Central were declared on February 20. The first prize went to Rajshree Shendge of Ghorpadi Village High School. Jagruti Ashok Talmate of Sindhu Vidya Bhavan School took second place and the third prize went to Vivek Kutal of J N Petit Technical School. Five consolation and three special prizes were also given away. The winners were chosen among 238 entries from various schools in the city. President of the club, Madhu Rathi, gave away the prizes.Spreading harmonySwami Jagadguru Shankracharya Sansthanam Shakatpuram Sri Vidyapeetham conferred the title of `Bhajan Shiromani' on S Shankaranarayanam. He was felicitated for his contribution toward spreading the message of Bhaktimarga through bhajans for over four decades. The award was given away at a function held at Sharda-LIC colony, Kothrud. Many disciples of the Swami also attended the function and received his blessings. Shankaranarayanam was presented with a shawl and Rudraksha Rosary in appreciation of his services.Maha abhishekamThe Pranapratishta Samaroh of the Hutashani Santoshmita in Hadapsar will be celebrated at the temple premises from February 27 to March 2. The main function will be held on March 1 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. Puja and mahaarti will be done on March 2 from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. The puja will be conducted by Pt Deviprasad Durgadas Joshi and Gangubai Malgunde will perform maha abhishekam and other rituals.Feast of Infant JesusThe Infant Jesus Centre, Nigdi, celebrated the annual feast of Infant Jesus on February 20. Solemn High Mass was led by Bishop Valerian D'Souza. The feast was preceded by Novena which started on February 10 and ended on February 20.For and againstThe eighth annual inter-school English debate for the Patwardhan trophy was held at the Bishop's School on February 16. Thirteen schools took part in the debate for which the topic was `Future generations have nothing to look forward to in a country like India.' The trophy was lifted by Shadan Felfeli and Behram Sidhwa of The Bishop's School and St Helena's team of Sneha Hiremath and Shivangi Varma were adjudged runners-up. Behram Sidhwa was adjudged the best speaker followed by Bhargavi Venugopal of St Joseph's, Pashan.
