Cleanliness camp-aign
The special winter camp of the National Service Scheme of the Abeda Inamdar Senior Girls concluded on December 14. The camp took off on December 3 at Ambegaon village, inaugurated at the hands of pro-vice chancellor N J Sonawane. The students were actively involved in shramdaan by cleaning gutters, conducting road repairs, cleaning temple premises and planting trees. On December 6 they actively participated in the pulse polio programme held in the village. On December 8 a medical check-up camp was held in coordination with the Unani Medical college on Azam Campus. A number of lecture sessions were also held on Education through Entertainment, Communication Skills and Goal Development.

The holy month
From December 21, the holy month of Ramzan took off with people gearing up for the fast throughout the day and the feast at night. This is the month when Muslim brethren donate generously to the poor and needy, thus doing their bit for the good of society at large. Devotees trooped to the favourite haunts of Mominpura where delicious biryani is always a perennial delicacy. The mosques in the city were filled up with ibadat being offered by people of all ages. The holy month ends on January 20, so if people want to partake of the feast at night then Mominpura is a good place to head for.

Noble gesture
The Rotary club of Pune Riverside donated shoes worth Rs 50,000 to the Poona Blind Men8217;s Association. The shoes were sponsored by Maharaj Footwear. The gesture was much appreciated by the director of the association, Niranjan Pandya.

Annual day celebrations
The Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military day School and Junior College celebrated its annual day on December 23. The director of IMDR, Ashutosh Bhupatkar, was the chief guest and Madhuri Bhupatkar gave away the prizes. The day started off with a Guard Of Honour followed by the inauguration of a science and art exhibition. The students also put up a variety show and the principal read out the annual report earmarking the school8217;s achievements.
