Small is big

With all those big stars making their presence felt on television, it would be unfair to still refer to it as the "small" screen.

The latest Bollywood actor to hop on the TV reality-show-judge bandwagon is the very charming Mahima Chaudhry

With all those big stars making their presence felt on television, it would be unfair to still refer to it as the “small” screen. While last year television saw the likes of Urmila Matgaonkar, Shilpa Shetty, Farah Khan slip into the shoes of a reality show judge, the new arrivals this season have been Karisma Kapur, Sushmita Sen to now the charming Mahima Chaudhry. The latter makes an entry into 9X’s all-new reality show ‘Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1’ as a judge along with actor-director Satish Kaushik. What made her switch screens? “Today, Bollywood is the essence of entertainment everywhere. If you notice even television actors are dancing like their big screen counterparts complete with the filmi naach-gaana,” tells Mahima, speaking to us from Mumbai. And more than her, you can hear the actor’s 14-month-old daughter in the background. “She’s dancing to the Ellen DeGeneres show,” laughs Ariana’s actor mom who is making the most of her new found role. In fact, as Mahima tells us, family is priority now. “I had been acting for almost a decade and there came a time when all I wanted was a baby. That’s when I decided to take a family break,” Mahima makes a candid confession. Now with Ariana padding around the house, Mahima’s taken on one assignment. “I decided to step on the sets of ‘Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1’ as it requires me to be present only on one day of the week and that suits me brilliantly,” shares Mahima whose role on the show is pretty well defined. “I am supposed to judge the most entertaining team. Other aspects such as dance, acting are secondary,” she lists out.

For those who haven’t got a clue on the show’s format, here’s a quick take. Hosted by versatile actor Ali Asgar and popular TV star Divyanka Tripathi, ‘Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1’ brings together four opposing captains – singer Mika, actors Rakhi Sawant, Shakti Kapoor and Shweta Tiwari. These four will “battle” for the title of the wholesome entertaining team. And it’s a unique format which demands that team captains ‘trade’ team members amongst one another for further twists. Team members in the fray include the likes of Kashmera Shah, Rajeshwari Badola, Khayali, Twinkle Bajpai…to name a few.

As for Mahima’s own career graph, this pretty lady is in no tearing hurry. “Everyone’s asking me about future projects, films and the likes. Well, I am reading a few scripts but nothing is finalised. I don’t want to do anything just for the heck of it and moreover it should leave me enough time to be with Ariana,” she signs up saying.

‘Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1’ goes on air from November 9 on Channel 9X at 9 pm.
