President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said on Monday that the 8216;8216;small but important8217;8217; projects must be integrated and scaled up to cover all of India8217;s one-billion plus population.

The President was speaking at a World Bank function to sanction several NGO-run development projects. 8216;8216;We must stop and think about how such projects can be integrated and scaled up to bring prosperity to rural India,8217;8217; Kalam said, highlighting the key concepts and theory behind several PURA Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas projects he inaugurated recently.

Development, whether undertaken by private efforts or through public-private tie ups, must follow an integrated approach, combining physical connectivity with electronic knowledge and economic connectivity, he said. 8216;8216;None of the connectivities are complete without each other, if we are to bring all-round development in rural India,8217;8217; Kalam said.

He said around 20-40 million would be required for the development of rural clusters.

8216;8216;The World Bank can become a partner in enabling NGOs for undertaking development of viable clusters of villages for their sustainable development in a big way,8217;8217; he said.
