
A special team of Kandivili police apprehended a gang of six robbers early this week for allegedly hatching a plot to commit a dacoity in a jewellery store.
After the accused were interrogated, the police discovered that six men were history-sheeters with more than five cases of burglary, thefts and robberies registered against each.
Senior Police Inspector Surendrakumar Jaiswal from the Kandivili police station, said, 8220;We had received information that a gang of six armed persons would meet near a fast-food joint at Mahavir Nagar to carry out their plan to rob a jewellery store in the locality. Acting on the information, we formed squads of plain-clothes officers and laid a trap at various strategic locations near the fast food joint.8221;
Around 1 pm, the team saw two auto rickshaws approaching the fast food joint with six passengers. Recognising the men from the descriptions given by the informer, the police teams apprehended them. 8220;On frisking the accused, we discovered a country-made revolver, two live cartridges, long knives, a packet of chilli powder, a nylon rope and tapes. During interrogation, the men confessed that they met with the purpose of robbing a jewellery store located in Mahavir Nagar.8221;
The accused have been identified as Umar Salim Khan 22, Salim Sardar 23, Ajay Tiwari 19, Amit Raut 19, Harun Sardar 28 and Arfan Mulla 24.
The arrested were produced in the magistrate8217;s court and were remanded to police custody till October 10.
