AHMEDABAD, Nov 16: Governor Anshuman Singh, who is also the Chancellor of the universities in the State, has asked the Government for a report on the alleged sexual harassment of a student of law faculty Saurashtra University.

In a complaint to vice-chancellor Harsiddh Joshi, Harsha Pandya, a student of LLM, had alleged that lecturer B S Sharma had asked her 8220;some difficult questions8221; at a seminar. She also said that Sharma often called her to the staff room.

Sharma, however, had denied the charge, saying students were unhappy with him because of his strictness and his insistence on attendance. He had also threatened to immolate himself if an inquiry was not ordered by November 23.

Joshi today appointed a three-member committee to go into the matter. The panel consists of a member of university staff, a member of Saurashtra University Area Teachers Association and a member of Syndicate.

However, Pandya rejected the committee, saying no teacher should be associated with it.

Meanwhile, the Governor nominated three persons to Gujarat University Court and four to Bhavanagar University Court. Those on GU Court were Yasin Dalal, A K Agrawal and Jayesh Bhairasia, while Yogeshbhai Gami, Shailendrasinhji Gohil, Vibhavariben Dave and Om Hasubhai Trivedi were nominated to BU Court.
