8226; I find the comment in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna an insult to all women 8216;Sena wisdom on rape: girls are asking for it8217;, IE, April 26. Instead of condemning the criminal, they are implying that the victim deserved to be raped. Do they even understand what this crime is? It8217;s our fault in many ways, to make sense out of the talk of senseless people who want to turn Mumbai into an eighteenth century fiefdom of their own. It is because of such regressive ideology that repressed men think they can get away with openly voicing such thoughts. Someone should explain to these Shiv Sena men what democracy is.

Crabs in a pot?
8226; So Sheila Dikshit has been given a reprieve after a rap on the knuckles by 10 Janpath 8216;Sonia8217;s solution to Delhi crisis: Dikshit will stay but has to deal with the rebels8217;, IE, April 26. I can8217;t help thinking how the Congress party is like a congregation of crabs in a mud pot. Even if one tries to get out and do something innovative or different, we have all the others pulling her down. Is there any alternative to Sheila Dikshit? People voted Congress to power in Delhi a second time simply because of her.

More schools
8226; This has reference to the article 8216;Graduates of a shopping mall8217; IE, April 23. It is true that creating private universities en masse in Chhattisgarh was a disaster simply because the intention of the state8217;s politicians and bureaucrats 8212; as well as of commercial players 8212; were mala fide. It is right that the universities thus created have been prohibited from operating. Though quality should be a major objective, the performance of 8220;legitimate8221; universities and institutions of higher learning has not been particularly inspiring. Higher education apparently is not a priority of the state as far as funding goes. We need some alternatives. The government can think about enabling mechanisms such as long-term soft loans for students to pay for education and non-government institutions to build quality infrastructure. Accreditation is also important.

A loss deconstructed
8226; A balanced article by Gopal Jain 8216;No extra cover for those silly points8217;, IE, April 26. The BCCI and the selectors should learn to take responsibility for the dismal performance of the team. How long will Dalmiya carry on sheltering players like Sourav Ganguly. What a shame that a coach like John Wright had to play second fiddle to Sourav during his tenure. It8217;s high time BCCI sets its house in order.
