Tarun Sangha FC became the first big-club hunter of the season on Monday with a 2-1 victory over Simla Youngs, with the battle clearly down to not so much between the two teams as between the four Nigerians, two from each side. While the first half was about foundering chances, the second half was more about catching up. The job, however, was done by the pair who had a lesser burden of anticipation, being the underdogs. In the 42nd minute Arup Sarkar and Altafuddin Ahmed contrived to get their team into lead through import Henry’s sharp left-footer from the left flank. Within five minutes, the Nigerian could be seen in various roles — right winger, centre forward — with compatriot Figo doubling the lead through a lone ball. For the other two Africans in the Simla Youngs’ ranks, who missed a couple of easy chances in the first half, the second half was some consolation. If the stranglehold on Ugo and Charles was too stifling, it was from a similar gapless situation that the former scored in the 47th minute — a reverse volley covering defender Sankho Kolay.Earlier, City FC were held to a goalless draw by Shastri FC.
