
CHANDIGARH, May 12: The Chandigarh Administration has dismissed all the four engineers of the UT Engineering department who were convicted in the Sukhna Silt scam.
The orders regarding their dismissal passed by the Secretary Engineering on May 10, have been reportedly sent by registered post. The dismissal follows the recommendations of the CVC.
According to officials, the four engineers 8211; Executive Engineers A.K. Gupta and K.S. Brar, SDE Surjit Singh and Section Officer Baljinder Singh, were convicted by the Additional District and Sessions Judge M.R. Batra, after the vigilance cell of the Chandigarh Administration had investigated the charges of corruption against them in the removal of silt from Sukhna Lake. However, the engineers have got a stay from the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the sentence granted by the lower court. The incident dates back to the tenure of UT Adviser Baleshwar Rai, when the matter was brought to his notice and an enquiry was initiated against the engineers.
