PDCA chess from July 26
Pune District Chess Association will be conducting the Central Maharashtra Chess Selection tournament at the Shri Agrasen Bhavan from July 26 to 30.

The first six players in the tournament will qualify to represent Central Maharashtra in the Maharashtra State Selection tournament for National `B’.

The tournament is open to players from Pune, Ahmednagar, Nasik, Jalgaon, Dhule and Raigad and shall be played as per FIDE’s rules in Swiss League.

Entry fees is Rs 150 and entries will be accepted by Joseph A D’Souza at the venue between 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. on July 26.

Bridge tourney from July 27
Poona Club will be conducting the Narayandas Rathi Memorial Bridge tournament at the club premises from July 27 to August 1.

This is the 15th Annual State level tournament of Poona Club. It will commence with two eliminations and one final round of the Pairs Progressive event on July 27, 28 and 29 respectively. The Mixed Pairs event will be held on July 30. Play will begin at 7.00 p.m. everyday.

The Duplicate Team of Four events will be played over the weekend. Five rounds of Swiss League will be played on Saturday, while two more rounds and the Round Robin for the top four teams will be played on Sunday. There is also a consolation event for those who do not qualify for the final play-offs.

The total prize money at stake has been increased to Rs 30,000. The tournament has been organised in the memory of late Narayandas Rathi who had shot into prominence when he led his relatively unknown team to victory in the prestigious Ruia Trophy at the 1977 Nationals at Guwahati.
