Thane to host state Mini Chess

Thane will host the Maharashtra State Mini chess championship for boys8217;, girls8217; under-12 and under-14 simultaneously with Rochess 8217;99 State-level Open Junior tournament for the under-19 from November 24-28 at Dadaji Konddeo Stadium. Inter-Schools Harris Shield cricket

The MSSA-Castrol Inter-Schools Harris Shield Boys under-16 cricket tournament will be held from November 2 while the Giles Shield under-14 will begin from November 12. Participating schools can collect copies of their draw from the MSSA Schools Sports Centre,Azad Maidan.

Times Shield Awards presented

It was a curious mix of entertainment and cricket. It was the awards night of the Times Shield Cricket tournaments for the year 1998-99. Former Cricket Board BCCI president then regaled the function with his humour at the Nehru Centre last night. Dungarpur recalled how Ajit Wadekar had taunted him for being unemployed to play in the tournament. Dungarpur bemoaned the lack of stars in the current A Division matches. 8220;But I cannot blame anybody, neither the teams nor the Mumbai Cricket Association,8221; he said. Along with the cricketers, the umpires and the groundsmen were also awarded. And there was a loud cheer when the first groundsman8217;s name was announced.

Cycle race for under-12 students

The Amateur Cycling Association of Bombay Suburban District Tel: 6431530 will organise races for boys8217; and girls8217; under-12 and under-16 on October 31. Completed entry forms should reach the Association at 319, Sir Bhalchandra Road, Matunga, Mumbai-19before October 25.

All-Mumbai Open Rink Football
