Johnson adjudged best

Neil Johnson of Zimbabwe is the BPL Player of the Week for the period May 28 to June 3.

Though Glenn McGrath destroyed West Indies with 5-41 and Ganguly was man of the match versus England, the judges 8212; Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards and Tony Greig 8212; chose Johnson for his brilliant all-round performance in one of the most celebrated victories of his country. Johnson will be awarded US 500.

Ganguly, Dravid lead ratings

Southpaw Saurav Ganguly continued to occupy the number one batsman position in the latest Amul World Cricket Ranking, while batting genius Rahul Dravid with his recent performances inched to the number two slot. Master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who was away from the international cricket for quite some time, figures fifth and the third Indian in the top ten batsmen list.

The Waugh brothers are the two Australians who figure in the top ten list. While Mark occupies the third position, brother Steve figures ninth in the list. Pakistani Ijaz Ahmed, whobroke into the top ten list for the first time occupies the seventh position.

Australian Glenn McGarth, who gave a blow to the Indians in the Super Six continues to hold the number one position among bowlers with 109 wickets. Two Indians to figure in the list are J Srinath 81 wickets, and leggie Anil Kumble 79 wickets. Srinath and Kumble occupy the sixth and seventh position respectively. Pakistani captain Wasim Akram, with 61 wickets, is placed at number 10 in the list.

Among the nine Test playing nations excluding Kenya and Bangladesh, India with a success rate of 50 per cent occupies the number five position. South Africans and the Aussies are number one and number two respectively.
