World bridge from Jan 25

  • World class bridge is set to come to Mumbai with the first Tolani World Invitational Pairs championship, organised by the Mumbai Sports amp; Bridge Association and sponsored by the Tolani Group of Companies, to be held from January 25 to 28, 1999 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
  • Some of the leading players in the world like Omar Sharif Egypt, Zia Mahmood USA/Pakistan, Gabriel Chagas Brazil, Bobby Wolff US, Eric Rodwell US, Sabine and Jens Auken Denmark, Nicola Smith UK, Chris Convery South Africa, Paul Chemla France Alain Levy France, Cristain Mari France and Jeff Meckstroth US among others are expected to participate. The tournament carries prize-money of 30,000.

    Chess tourney from June 5

  • The Gokuldham Chess Club will conduct the Bharat Peteroleum Chess Utsav 8217;98 from June 5 to 7.
  • The event will be held at the Gokuldham High School Goregaon. The tournament will be held in seven categories i.e. under-8, under-10, under-12,under-14, under-16, under-18 and Open. In addition, there will be a simultaneous tournament against IMs on June 17. Entries, which close on May 31, will be accepted at the Monginis Shop Samrat Enterprises, Goregaon East, close to Goregaon Rly. station, as well as by S Majumdar, Flat 604, Chandrasagar, Gokuldham, Goregaon East.     Single-wicket cricket tournament

  • The 14th Late Khandu Rangnekar Memorial single-wicket cricket tournament will be held on May 24 at the Central Maidan, Thane, under the auspices of Sporting C C. Those who have played in the Shamrao Thoser and Dr Sridhar Despande tournaments this year are eligible. Entries, which close on May 22, will be accepted by Sharafat Bapu between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the E B D Pavilion, Central maidan.
