The SJAM8217;s award winners for 1997 are Pravin Thipsay, who became India8217;s third Grandmaster in chess after Vishwanathan Anand and Dibyendu Barua, the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, Ashok Shandilya who reached the World Amateur billiards final at Malta and Rajeev Mishra, the top scorer in the 1997 Junior World Cup Hockey Tournament at Milton Keynes UK.

Two Special Encouragement awards will be presented to Fr Agnel football team for progressing from the third division to senior division of the WIFA league in just three years and Koneru Humpy, who hasshown the potential at a very early age to become a top class chess player.

Samyal to lead West Zone

In the inaugural round matches of 35 overs each, West Zone will meet North Zone at the Wankhede Stadium while East will face holders South at the Bombay Gymkhana.
