MUMBAI, JUNE 7: After a better spell, pivotals failed to retain their initial gains on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today mainly on emergence of profit-taking.
Sensex BSE sensitive index opened firm at 4075.52 and moved between 4089.02 and 4028.66 before closing at 4035.32 with a small loss of 7.20 points against last Friday8217;s close of 4042.52. The BSE-100 index, however, was quoted fractionally up at 1744.25 as compared to the previous close of 1744.09.
Brokers said the new account started on a better note but several scrips attracted profit-taking at the end due to late profit-booking by operators and institutions. FIIs were reportedly net buyers in select cyclical scrips like Tata Tea, Reliance, SBI besides ITC, ABB, Thermax and some others.
The profit taking was also in line with selling on the National Stock Exchange NSE, the current settlement of which would end on Tuesday. In the infotech group, Satyam, Infosys and Pentafour dropped considerably. Britannia, Nestle from FMCG shares fell moderately. However, Reckitt and Colman posted marginal gain. Among others MRPL, Arvind Mills, Bombay Dyeing, Excel, Videocon Int, Reliance Petro posted smart gains on good buying interest from institutional investors.
