CALCUTTA, Jan 7: As Geet Sethi approached the 300 mark in his 22nd visit, he decided to cross the baulk-line as is necessary under the new rules in billiards. He missed the red pot, yet managed the day8217;s highest break of 299. That was only a small part of his four-figure score for the second consecutive day. His opponent A Haque of Orissa could do little as Sethi trounced him 1116 to 347 and made it to the pre-quarter-finals as expected.
quot;It was a difficult angle, quot; Sethi would say later referring to the missed pot in the 22nd visit. quot;I tried but missed, quot; a gentle shrug was the only show of disappointment.
That was just one of the big ones that Sethi got today, the fourth day of the Uniworth 64th National Billiards Championships at the Calcutta Club. He crossed the three-figure mark two more times 8212; in the ninth visit when he had a break of 162 and the 26th visit which fetched him 105.
On another table, Alok Kumar of Punjab too was blowing away his opponent Praveen Saighal MP. Alok had just one notable break of 87 in his 17th visit, but that was enough to defeat Saighal 953 to 305. In a late match yesterday, Alok had defeated KK Khanna Jamp;K 1026 to 236.
Manoj Kothari had a comfortable 833-468 win over Sunil Sarda Raj. Devender Lilly Pnb defeated Prateek Luhadia 801-352, while Shakeel Ahmed prevailed over S Mumtaz Ali 650-440. Mohammad Asim beat Siddharth Anand 774-447 while ME Jokhi outclassed Ashok Kumar , 803-203.
