As the counting of votes was on throughout the day at Panjab University, candidates for the Graduate constituency were keeping their fingers crossed, With the first preferences being counted, the names of only five candidates with a considerable lead could be known till the filing of the report.

Only two candidates have crossed the 3,462-vote mark fixed as the limit for declaring a candidate as a winner, while the other three have secured winning position on the reserved seats of which two are for Punjab and one is for Chandigarh.

The counting of votes in the constituency is expected to take another day atleast as votes are counted manually. Having felt the heat with the traditional electoral process employed in the elections, the candidates are talking of a need to bring in changes like revision of voter lists and a mechanism to expedite counting of votes in the Panjab University.
