
CHANDIGARH, Oct 6: quot;The most important focal point for the manufacturing industry is to build competitiveness, keeping in mind that the key element is of speed which requires judicious use of automation.quot; This was stated by Arun Bharat Ram, Vice- President, CII, while speaking at a seminar on Cost Effective Automation organised by Confederation of Indian Industries northern region.
Bharat Ram stressed that new companies which can compete in today8217;s environmentwill emerge and take over the place of old ones. He said the manufacturing sector will continue to play a key role in Indian industry even though sectors such as services and IT might actually grow faster.
Outlining six basic criteria for effective use of automation, Bharat Ram said the organisation must have the capacity to scan technology and choose the most appropriate one. Human Integrated Systems must be employed, employees need to be trained and re-trained to derive maximum benefits from automation, he said. Ramesh C Jain Chairman Manufacturing Technology Sub-Committee CII and MD Eicher Tractors Limited said that the objective of MTC is to facilitate global competitiveness of small, medium and large companies.
