Security up for Thackeray and Uddhav

MUMBAI, May 9: Security for Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and his son Uddhav has been stepped up following reports of threats to their lives.8220;We have taken serious note of the reports received by our own intelligence wing as well as the Intelligence Bureau and security for Thackeray as well as his son Uddhav has been stepped up,8221; a senior official told Express Newsline.

According to reports, a meeting was held a few days back at Alibag to plan an attack against Thackeray as well as Uddhav. 8220;We have received the information and a high-level police team is looking into it. Police officers also visited Alibag to confirm if the meeting was held at all. But no details were available immediately,8221; the official said. 8220;We have decided to strengthen the security provided to Thackeray at his Bandra residence,8221; he said.

8220;In view of the firm stand taken by Thackeray on the role of militants in Punjab and also after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, there was a threat to his life from fanatics,8221; he pointed out. But this is the first time a threat has been perceived against Uddhav.
