CHANDIGARH, Sept 17: The police have worked out several measures to provide adequate security cover during the staging of Ram Leela in the city, which is scheduled to commence from September 21.

In a meeting chaired by UT SSP C S R Reddy, it was decided that the Ram Leela management committees would provide voluntary security guards at all sites from amongst their members. These guards would be provided with identity cards by the police. Also, after the end of day, till commencement of staging on the subsequent day, a handful of these voluntary guards will be required to stay at the site as a precautionary measure.

The city police, including personnel drawn from the Crime Branch Operations and the commando force, will set up nakas at about 15 different places in the city to monitor movement of people and vehicles.

At a total of 42 sites of staging the Ram Leela, security at sites known to attract large crowds will be monitored by an officer of the rank of an inspector, sub-inspectors or assistant sub-inspectors will be responsible for security at other places.

The management committees will also be responsible for proper lighting, adequate parking space and barricades at the sites. Further only one entrance and exit will be allowed at every site.

The time limit of staging the Ram Leela has been set at 12.30 a.m. each day.
