Security cover to six more restored

Those being given security cover are: city Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate SDM Ashish Kundra, SDM Central P.S. Gill and SDM East Geetanjali Kundra, Congress leader Jagan Nath Kaushal and All-India Radio Station Director D.P. Malik. Each of them will be given a personal security officer.

Besides the above six persons, local Nirankari leader Kesho Ram, who already had a PSO, will be given an additional PSO.

UT IGP S.K. Singh, when contacted, said this was a quot;routine exercise as every three months the PRG reviews security.quot; Giving reasons for restoring security to some persons, a police official said the SDMs are required to go to law and order spots where there is always a fear of a mob attacking them. quot;About the rest, it was based on the assessment of security threat to them by intelligence and our own department,quot; he added.

According to a police official, nearly 15 requests for restoration of security had come, out of which five were given security when Asad Farooqui was the officiating IGP. These included Parminder Singh Bhullar alias Pinky, UT Finance Secretary Rakesh Singh, a judge and former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal.
