CHANDIGARH, Oct 12: The 23rd State Science Exhibition was inaugurated at the State Institute of Education, Sector-32, here today. Vineeta Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, inaugurated the four-day exhibition, being organised by the SIE in collaboration with NCERT, New Delhi.

The exhibition is being organised on quot;Science and Technology to meet the challenges of lifequot;. Areas of food, health and nutrition; industry and environment protection; transport and communication and energy and environment, will also be covered. As many as 62 senior secondary and secondary schools are taking part in the exhibition. Students had displayed their work including around 310 models in 69 stalls.

H.C. Sharma, Director of SIE, said the exhibition was organised at secondary and senior secondary levels, keeping in view NCERT guidelines. While 70 per cent weightage will be given to technical skill and creative ability, 30 per cent would be reserved for presentation and educative value, he added.

Addressing the students, Vineeta Rai, said that the exhibition was an effort to create a meaningful interface between science, technology and education to meet the challenges of life. She said that it was only through knowledge and effective use of innovations in science and technology that we can improve the quality of life and enhance the standard of living.

N.K. Jain, Home Secretary-cum-Education Secretary, K.A.P. Sinha, Joint Secretary Finance-cum-Director Public Instructions Colleges, D.S. Saroya, Director Public Instructions Schools, were present. The heads of various institutions of the city also attended the fair.
