The Supreme Court has directed Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, to permit students of the Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana, to take their first-year MBBS exams.A vacation bench of the apex court comprising Justices K.G. Balakrishnan and P. Venkatarama Reddi has issued a notice to MCI on a petition filed by the CMC. The college said though it had submitted all documents demanded by the MCI, it had not withdrawn the showcause notice with the Baba Farid University and the latter had not issued hall tickets to students for the exams beginning on June 23.Senior counsel K. Radhakrishnan, who appeared for the CMC, told the court that because of the standoff, students admitted by the CMC on the lines of the clarificatory judgment in Islamic Academy Vs Karnataka case could not be regularised and they could not get hall tickets for the exams.
