
CHANDIGARH, Aug 4: Sanjay Public School, Sector 44 will meet SD Public School, Sector 32 in the final of the Chandigarh State Sub-Junior Football Championship under-16 at the DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 tomorrow at 4.30 p.m.
In the semi-finals played today, Sanjay Public School, Sector 44 scored an easy 4-0 victory over Blue Star Club and SD Public, Sector 32 prevailed over St Xavier Public School, Sector 8 by 6-5 in the tie-breaker.
In the first semi-final Sanjay Public School mounted pressure from the the kick off. They managed to score the first goal in the sixth minute though right winger Davinder Singh. He was followed by right striker Chatan who scored the second goal in the 10th minute through a solo efforts.
The Sanjay School boys tried hard to further increase the lead in the first half and crossed over with a 2-0 lead.
After the lemon break, Sanjay School scored their third goal through right winger Davinder Singh with a powrful shot in the 32rd minute. He was followed by his teammate right half Rajiv who dribbled past two defenders and beat the rival goalkeeper with a powerful shot.
The second semifinal match between St. Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School-8 and SD Public School-32 began on a fast pace. Both the teams were evenly balanced. The S.D. School boys enjoyed an edge over the rivals and dominated the proceedings for 10 minutes but failed to break the tight defence of St. Xarier’s School being managed by right stopper Joseph who cleared a dangerous move in the 12th minute.
However, the St Xavier’s boys did not lose heart as they for started making dangerous moves. Right striker Dheeraj of St Xavier’s missed a sitter in 15th minute. However in a counter-attack left out Tarjinder Singh of S.D School floated a cross in the dangerous area and right striker Gopal Thapa jumped and headed the ball into an empty goal as the rival goalkeeper had come out to clear the cross in the 24th minute. Elated by this success, S.D. boys tried hard to increase the seed but failed to increase the lead in the first half.
After crossing over St. Xavier’s mounted pressure to equalise. They were awarded a foul. The result direct kick was taken by right stricker Dheeraj in the 33rd minute. The kick went straight into for corner of the goal by beating the rival goalkeeper completely.
In a counter attack, SD boys missed a golden chance in 40th mintue. As the tension mounted right striker Gopal Thapa of SD Public School missed a goden chance in 40th minute. Since both the teams failed to settle the match in stipulated time, the tie-breaker rule was applied.
SD Public School won the match by 6-5 goals via tie-breaker and qualified for final.
