The NCP is making efforts to bring former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma back into the party’s fold. He is currently in the Nationalist Trinamool Congress.

Sangma had parted company with NCP chief Sharad Pawar after he forged an alliance with Congress. NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar told The Indian Express here he was in the process of negotiating with Sangma over his possible return. ‘‘But we haven’t reached any agreement yet,’’ he said. Anwar was optimistic about the outcome. Sangma, he said, ‘‘is a very senior leader and he can be brought into the party only with due honour’’. Sangma was not available for comments.
