Ruparel on top
DG Ruparel were in command against RA Podar at the end of the penultimate day of the four-day Inter-collegiate cricket final at Elf Vengsarkar Cricket Academy, Oval Maidan, on Thursday.

Ruparel, after taking a 286-run lead, had Podar tottering at 130 for five wickets, needing 156 more to avoid follwo-on.

L&T in final
Larsen and Toubro beat BPCL by 10 runs in the Indian Airlines cricket semi-finals. Man-of-the-match Uday Bangar scored 29, took two wickets while affecting a run-out and taking a catch.
L&T meet IDBI in the final.

Qualifiers spotted
Vinod Solanki, Prakash I, Nitin Nawar, Amit Dixit, DK Golwankar, Subhash Honmurgi and Vaibhav Saxena qualified to play the state selction chess tournament to be held at Nagpur. They joined N Singaravelan, winner of the Mumbai Division selection tournament that concluded on Wednesday. The seven seeded players of the meet had qualified earlier.

Laher flows
HT Laher came back from behind to defeat G Sarkar in the Catholic Gymkhana open handicap snooker tournament for the Anthony D’Souza trophy. Laher won 100-112, 108-71, 125-81.
