BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah today confirmed that Sachin Tendulkar’s fitness test will be held on May 23, a day before the Test team is named for the tour of West Indies.
In the absence of Indian team physio John Gloster, former physio Andrew Leipus will take the call on Tendulkar’s fitness and give a final report to the board.
Leipus is working along with MRF Pace Foundation’s fitness trainer Ramji Srinivasan in taking care of Tendulkar’s improvement. The batsman is spending quality time in fitness sessions planned by Leipus, Ramji and Foundation chief coach TA Sekar. ‘‘He is finding it comfortable here and is very cautious about the whole approach,’’ Leipus told The Indian Express.
‘‘We had decided that he should take it really easy. For the kind of strain that he’s gone through he shouldn’t really be stretching himself too much,’’ Leipus said.
‘‘The focus he has on keeping himself fit and going is just unbelieveable. He is going through routine sessions of physiotherapy, shoulder exercises, tubing and scapula stability exercises,’’ Ramji said.
