Himanshu Sabharwal, son of Prof H S Sabharwal, who was allegedly beaten to death by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists outside Madhav College, refused to appear as a witness in the ongoing trial in Ujjain today.

He said he was unhappy with the way the investigation and trial was progressing and will not depose till the Supreme Court delivered its verdict in the matter. He was to appear as a prosecution witness today but he stayed back in Delhi. “Since he was not an eyewitness, there is little value to what he says unless he can corroborate it,” a police officer based in Ujjain said.

Questioning the probe, Himanshu said the prosecution did not contact him though his testimony could be vital to the case. He has alleged

hat college peon Komal Singh Sengar, who turned hostile during the trial, was under pressure to change his statement.
