Mumbai, April 30: The City Civil and Sessions Court on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail applications of six Regional Traffic Office RTO agents who had allegedly issued bogus badges to autorickshaw drivers. The RTO issues badges to drivers who wish to ply taxis or autorickshaws within the city limits.

Principal Judge A S Aguiar rejected the applications of Altaf Alim Mohammed Khalil, Mohammed Amir Mohammed Zahir, Mohan Mavalkar, Baban Panmed, Subhash Shinde and Anil Shinde. Sandeep Jadhav, a junior clerk in the badge section of Ghatkopar RTO, was earlier arrested by the Pant Nagar police and was released on bail by a metropolitan magistrate. The accused were arrested following a complaint lodged by the Deputy RTO on February 16, 1999.

Police claimed that the agents and the clerk had duped thousands of candidates.
