Rtd DSP commits suicide in Surat

A 62-year-old retired Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP shot himself on the head with his service revolver at his house in Rander on Sunday afternoon.

Avdhesh Chandrabali Dubey, a resident of Maninagar Society at Palanpur Patia, was at home, with his wife cooking in the kitchen, when he took out his .32 bore service revolver and fired one round from it to his forehead, the police said.

Hearing the gunshots, Dubey8217;s wife rushed to the bedroom where she found him dead. She immediately informed her sons Manish and Rakesh, and neighbours.

Rander police also rushed to the spot after learning about the incident.

The body was later sent to New Civil Hospital for post-mortem, while the revolver was seized by the police.

According to the police, two years ago, Dubey had accidentally shot his jaw while cleaning his rifle.

He had been rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors managed to save his life, but had to install a steel plate in the jaw.

He had been surviving on semi-solid food.

Rander Police Inspector R H Hadiya said: 8220;Dubey may have got fed up of the pain and therefore, decided to take the drastic step.8221;

Hailing from Banaras, Dubey had joined police services as a Sub-Inspector.

He was known as an uncontroversial officer and had a good reputation.

He retired four years ago from Nadiad as DSP.
