PUNE, Feb 23: Maharashtra unit of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh RSS will undertake a massive week-long mass awakening drive 8220;on the activities of Christian missionaries8221;.

A decision to this effect was taken at the three-day State-level meeting of the RSS held here last week. Taking serious note of the situation arising out of the recent attacks on the Christian community, the meeting decided to launch a campaign in Maharashtra to counter the allegations raised against RSS and the organisations within the Sangh Parivar.

A senior RSS official told this paper the campaign would begin on March 7 and would conclude on March 14. During this period, the RSS volunteers would undertake door-to door campaign and would try to reach a maximum number of the people.

8220;Lakhs of pamphlets and books, throwing light on the activities of Christian missionaries would be distributed in the urban and rural parts of the entire State,8221; the RSS official said. Public meetings would also be conducted to the let people know about RSS views on Christian missionaries and conversions. RSS has already drafted a pamphlet, explaining their position on Christian missionaries, which was made available at the meeting. The workers have been asked to print similar pamphlets, which would be distributed among the masses during the campaign.

The pamphlet has alleged that the various channels including STAR Plus, BBC, Zee TV and English newspapers were misleading the masses on the attacks on the Christian community. Stating that Christian missionaries were involved in systematic mass conversions by ways of service, cheating and use of power, the pamphlet says the incidents, which occurred in the past four months was nothing but a conspiracy to defame the nation.

Describing the Christian missionaries as 8220;traitors,8221; the pamphlet says the missionaries had decided to construct nine lakh churches in the country next year. The pamphlet also carries a chart, showing how the Christian population in the country, particularly in the North-Eastern states, had increased in the past 50 years. It has appealed the people to keep a close watch on the movements of Christian missionaries, not to fall prey to their allurements, have brotherly relations with adivasis and other down-trodden people and distribute the same pamphlet to maximum people.
