ROOPNAGAR, Jan 1: RSS ideologues yesterday criticized historians for “bad portrayal” of the Indian heroes and freedom fighters in all the mainstream educational books. Emphasising the need to rewrite the Indian history, the speakers at the concluding day of the week-long training camp held at the Dav School here for the RSS instructors,’ they held “imperialist” influence responsible for “distortion” of facts.

This was disclosed to ENS here today by the Swadeshi Jagran Manch district organiser Mahinder Jain, who was among the managers of the camp said that the speakers were resentful of the portrayal of the Indian Heroes in the bad light. Kanti Mohan, the main RSS ideologue from Chandigarh, on the occasion lamented the depictions of Shivaji and Guru Gobind Singh as “rebels” in the mainstream history.

Whereas the imperialists such as Alexander or Akbar are referred to as great men by the Indian historians, revolutionaries have been portrayed in extremely bad light, Jain said.

Jain further disclosed that participants from various towns and villages displayed judo and `lathi’ (stick) games on the concluding day of the camp that aimed to impart training to its cadets. In all, he said 14 such camps had been organised across the state. Of these, two were organised under Patiala zone, of which Roopnagar is a part. Pictures and posters eulogising “swadeshi” were also displayed at the camp that was attended by 71 students, Jain said.
