KOLHAPUR, April 26: Senior leader of Republican Party of India RPI and former MP D S Kamble has said that unity in RPI is not its leaders8217; prerogative but the need of the hour to keep the Dalit community united.
Addressing a public meeting at the historic Bindu Chowk here on Sunday evening, Kamble said party MPs Prakash Ambedkar and Ramdas Athawale should keep aside their personal differences and work on a common platform for the all-round development of Dalits in the society.
He said, every year, lakhs of Dalits come together to pay homage to their leader and architect of the Indian constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvan Day at the Chaityabhoomi which reflects their unity but lack of proper leadership is the only drawback.
No individual can stake claim for the unity, he asserted. He pointed out that due to personal differences the party has several factions and warned that such tendencies would adversely affect the party8217;s prospects and ultimately the Dalits will suffer.
