NEW YORK, MAY 13: Sixty seven-year-old Ashis Roy of India, who started running at the age of 52 to reduce weight, has created history by winning three US marathons in a row in the age group of 65 and above.
Roy, who has been regularly participating in marathons in the US improved his timing over last year, slicing off almost 25 minutes.
His best timing for the 42 km race so far was three hours and 49 minutes which he achieved at Cleveland on May two.
At Cincinatti on April 25, he completed it in three hours and 50 minutes and in Toledo on May nine, he recorded a timing of three hours and 51 minutes.
His best timing last year was four hours and nine minutes.
Roy, a retired Indian airforce wing commander from New Delhi, is a non-smoker and a teetotaller besides being a vegetarian. He takes home-made yoghurt with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
He said he was feeling on top of the world and plans to run marathons for many more years.
