Double date
Last year Sonali-Raheja Arora, the owner of Tresorie, was meant to hold a fashion show at the fabulous Raheja House in Juhu. But due to unseasonal rainfall it was called off. Well, obviously Sonali believes in the motto Better late than never8217; and kept her promise to deliver a show-stopping well, show. This Saturday, Sonali hosted a fabulous fashion event to coincide with her lifestyle store8217;s first anniversary. On display were the clothes of 13 designers including Rocky-S, Aariya as well as Sonali8217;s own range. A trained designer, she has even won the Smirnoff fashion award, three years ago. Over 500 people turned up to watch the likes of Bipasha Basu, Aditi Govitrikar and Dino Morea walk down the ramp. Attracting an equal amount of attention were film star Bobby Deol and his lovely wife Tanya 8212; the Deols are close friends of Sonali8217;s.
It was quite a night for the Raheja family though. Sonali8217;s aunt Meena also hosted a dinner at the Taj. And while the fashion police was busy at theJuhu show, most of the city8217;s industrialists were spotted enjoying an elegant dinner at the Taj Rooftop. Among those present included Anil and Tina Ambani, Mukesh and Nita Ambani, Champa and Chakur Doshi and Ashok Wadhwa. Adding a dash of glamour to the sea of grey suits was young Amisha Patel. The granddaughter of Barrister Rajni Patel, she is about to make her debut in Rakesh Roshan8217;s new film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. It will also launch the career of his son Hritik Roshan.
Birthday boy
Queenie and Raja Dhody hosted a party for their son Rajveer, who turned one, at the party rooms above the Khyber restaurant at Kala Ghoda. While the young Raja and his little friends had a whale of time in the Casbah, his parent8217;s friends extended the celebrations into the Yashab. Queenie looked glamourous and slim in a pink lehenga 8212; it8217;s hard to believe that she is the mother of two children 8212; and Raja matched her ethnicwear by donning an elegant cream kurta. Seen at the party were Gauri Khan, Aarti Surendranathsporting a new, shorter haircut, Devanshi Mehta, Laila and Rikki Lamba, Hasina and Tony Jethmalani, Meera Zaveri with son, Samrat and his wife Shalini, Sanjeev Chowdhury, Lascelles Symons, Sangeeta Chopra, Alison Kanuga, Namrata Shirodkar, Anupama Verma 8230; phew! Really, the who8217;s who seemed to have decided to spend a long, lazy Sunday afternoon together swilling wine and nibbling on a wide array of food. There was the usual Indian fare that Khyber is renowned for as well as a wide array of salads, some paella, and even a moussaka. All kinds of tastes were catered for.
Gold rush
Back in town is choreographer Lubna Adams. Though she lives in New York with her husband ex-model Deepak Malhotra, she spends a lot of time in Mumbai organising large shows. This time the show that brings Lubna back home is Swaranjali. Hosted by the World Gold Council WGC, this show will tour several cities in India before the final event is held in Delhi, at the end of the month. What makes the Mumbai show special?Well, while Lubna is choreographing all the WGC shows, this one is closest to her heart. Fourteen of the city8217;s top models will sashay down the ramp at the Taj Hotel signalling the end of her year-long sabbatical in her home town.
And finally8230;
First it was cigars 8212; PK, named after who else 8212; and now it8217;s tea. There is really no stopping film-maker Prahlad Kakkar. The ad man has yet another new venture up his sleeve. He is planning to open a tea-room in Churchgate where a wide array of the country8217;s finest teas will be available. Dainty sandwiches with the sides cut off, of course and scones with clotted cream will also be served with the chai. The self-promoted foodie is willing to experiment with anything 8212; just as long as it is palatable.
