Sunday songThe party of this week was Devika and Suresh Bhojwani's do at NJ-Jazz By The Bay. It was simply the most rocking event of an otherwise pretty dull week. In celebration of the Bhojwanis birthdays (in plural) Suresh turned and Devika, shall we just say looks thirtysomething this party was a first of sorts. Why? Well, the birthday boy and girl were able to sing `Happy Birthday' to themselves. They also provided the main entertainment for the evening. And at some stage were joined by other singers like Gary Lawyer. Of course the place was packed and we sure that everyone who was invited went to work on Monday with a heavy, hungover head. Spotted at the tres chic neo-funk bar were Anuradha and Anand Mahindra, Sangeeta Chopra and Tarun Raghavan and Tariq and Anu Ansari. But the girl who captured the eye of all the men was Sabah Khaleli. Perhaps her fiancee Kamlesh Shah named his magazine OOMPH after her. Everyone commented that she had lost a lot of weight and was looking radiant. Wethink that Sabah should stop tying cardigans around hips to camoflague her voluptious figure. It really is worth flaunting. What a ball! For cricket buffs Sunday had even more to offer. ELLE had a special box at the Wankhede Stadium for the 1983 versus 1999 cricket match. Essentially, an all-woman's box, Milind Soman and Arjun Rampal were gladly welcomed into the fray. Pleased as punch with themselves for the male additions were Neerja Shah and her team, Diana Hayden and Kimi Katkar (with husband Shantanu Sheorey). The 1999 team defeated the Kapil Dev's 1983 team but with the Master Blaster back in action no one stood a chance. Yes, bad back, road accident et al nothing could stop Sachin Tendulkar from hitting a century.Weekend bluesThe weekend's party fare paled in comparison to Sunday's do. Royal Challenge had a party on Saturday where everyone cribbed that the only whisky served was of the hosts. Yes, we know it a RC promotional event but with the calibre of people around youwould have thought they would serve a better brand of whiskey. Like a Single Malt. Let's face it, it's the only thing that would have gone down well with all the Rolexes on the wrists of high-ranking executives. Adding a touch of glamour to the event were Marc Robinson and Jackie Shroff - and even though Jackie has advertised for desi whiskies in the past, we are sure he would have enjoyed a good Glenlivet.Anyway, coming to model Marc - he has been quite a man about town, this week. On Friday he was at the Konkan cafe, on Saturday after the RC party - after which he went to the 1900s, and on Sunday he was at the Bhojwani do. Other than his boundless energy we notice that Marc has developed Jungle Fever. No, it's nothing serious, just a term borrowed from a Spike Lee film about people who go down with a White Skin Complex. And if it's Marc then the jungle fever has to have a Jane. He seems to be constantly chatting up some phirang babe or the another. Peharps he thinks his foreign-sounding name willrope in the white women. But really he should look at our homegrown lasses. They put any phirang to shame. On Saturday, Apiksha, wife of Sumeet Chopra, clad in a couture Issey Mikaye very short red dress, shone like a beacon. Her fashion photographer husband should start using her as a muse.Al talkAfter Three Flights Up, the Fashion Bar & Bistro is the next nightspot trying on a new avataar. It's introduced a new menu and is hosting all kinds of one-off events. Why it needs to do that we cannot figure out? The Fashion Bar remains the favourite of the fashionable crowd. On Thursday, it was packed with all its regular models who seem to love the ambience. Particularly if Dino Morea and Lara Dutta are anything to go by. The ex-Gladrags winners appeared to be catching up on their lives and we figure the reason they spent the entire evening together was they had so much to share. Both models careers seem to be taking off. Dino has just finished his first Hindi film as Siddhanth and Lara has becomethe current rage with most fashion designers. And finally.Designer Ravi Bajaj's recent show in Delhi was a huge success. So much so that people in Bombay who had a chance to check out his work have become the cynosure of all fashion victims. Dominated by saris, this guru of Westernwear has proved - with his new line - that he has made the transition to the traditional seamlessly. But what he hasn't done with similar ease is introduce his line to Mumbai. Does he think that the glamour capital of the the country will not appreciate his black and white collection? Or his fluted sarees? If the pictures are anything to go by - with or without Viveka Babajee - his clothes will sell like a house on fire. Or is that the wrong analogy to use?
