
STUTTGART, March 26: A late goal by Ronaldo enabled Brazil beat Germany 2-1 in a tense warm-up for the World Cup football finals yesterday in which each team had a man sent off.
Ronaldo clinched victory for the World champions after a brilliant solo run with two minutes remaining. Brazil had opened the scoring in the 27th minute with mid-fielder Cesar Sampaio heading home from a corner kick by defender Roberto Carlos.
The home side levelled scores in the 65th when substitute Ulf Kirsten slalomed his way through the Brazilian defence to beat keeper Taffarel from close range.
france upset: A third-minute blunder by French reserve goalkeeper Lionel Letizi handed Russia a 1-0 victory in a friendly match at Moscow yesterday that must leave the World Cup hosts more than a little concerned.
It is the first defeat for France, who have never won in six visits to Russia, since they lost 1-0 to England last June.
