Let me congratulate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for keeping his dignity and approaching Indo-US relations as a matter between two equal nations 8216;Questions and Answers8217;, IE, July 30. This is necessary because India8217;s prime ministers till now 8212; from Nehru to Vajpayee 8212; approached relations with the US with preconceived notions about the issues and abilities of US presidents. The PM, for the first time, was able to approach George Bush with a free mind and carry on the conversation not as a supplicant but like another independent nation that can manage its affairs on its own.

8226; Bihar Governor Buta Singh has completely failed in exercising his diplomatic acumen, and has landed himself and Bihar in a mess. It seems he has qualified for immediate removal and replacement by a governor who can manage Laloo8217;s Bihar in a better manner. Laloo8217;s Bihar is a difficult state to administer. It requires an ace administrator immediately to remedy the existing chaos.

8226; The writer of the report, 8216;PM8217;s tiger force pulls tribal rabbit out of hat8217; IE, July 29 assumes that the best way to protect tigers is to trample on the rights of people living in reserves. The fact is that these people are citizens, and whatever we may feel about conservation, there can be no effective or legal protection without respecting people8217;s rights. If the government throws people out of their homes, it is not only committing a crime, it is ensuring that no conservation will ever happen 8212; for no protection regime can survive if the local community is against it.

Alerting Indians

Media publications such as the Indian Express and others have done a wonderful job in highlighting the Left discrepancies. Indians need to be made fully aware of the benefits of retail to the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. Proper investment can be a boon in efficiently organising various segments of the Indian economy and bring much needed employment to rural people.

We want to adopt
8226; Apropos of the story, 8216;Twins seek home while prospective parent languish on adoption waiting lists8217; July 27, it is incredible that the twins cannot find a home while couples like us are patiently waiting our turn for a child /twins to be available to adopt. We are more than happy to adopt the twins if we are provided the opportunity. The current adoption laws however treat us Indian couples living abroad as pariahs.
