SURAT, June 8: A rickshaw driver was found murdered during the early hours of Tuesday near Matawadi bus stand area. Though a couple of suspects have been picked up by the Mahidharpura police, no accused has been identified as yet.

According to details, 30-year-old Uday Vinu Brahman8217;s body was found on the footpath opposite Sabras Hotel near Matawadi Bus Stand on Lambe Hanuman Road at about 12:30 am on Tuesday. When Mahidharpura PSI M M Vasava reached the spot, Brahman was dead and his body lying in a pool of blood. He was stabbed a number of times in the chest, face and other parts.

Though the police have not officially shown any arrests, two rickshaw drivers are said to have been picked up for questioning. Personal rivalry is said to be the reason behind the murder. In fact, most rickshaw drivers lined up their vehicles at the Matawadi Bus stand and slept in the vehicles itself during the night.

Police sources said Brahman was poor and had come from Bhavnagar a couple of months ago to earn a living. He is reported to have had an argument with other drivers before being killed. PI S M Rathod, who is investigating the murder, said the culprits will be nabbed soon. A case of murder under IPC 302 has been registered.
