Revised wages for teachers okayed

NEW DELHI, February 8: The Executive Council EC members of Delhi University on Sunday accepted part of the recommendations of the Anomalies Committee for the implementation of revised pay scales for teachers. The Financial Estimates of Delhi University for the year 1999-2000 were presented at this meeting.

The EC members also approved the recommendation that transport allowance should be paid to all university employees except those who have been provided accommodation within a distance of 1 km from their workplace. They also passed the 74th Annual Report of DU.

While replying to questions during zero hour, the chairman said that strict action would be taken against persons found to be involved in illegal practices during admissions.

EC members V K Aggarwal, Kailash Gambhir and R P Solanki expressed resentment at the allocation of Rs 2 crore from the University Grants Commission to the Centre for bio-medical research. They said that the UGC had already registered a deficit of Rs 14 crore in the current financial year and this had led to non-payment of salary arrears to teachers.
