Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said while he had been silent on the Godhra train carnage issue for the past six years, the first part of Justice Nanavati Mehta Commission8217;s report, which was tabled in State Assembly on Thursday, had cleared all the confusion which was being spread around the incident.

Addressing a gathering in his Maninagar constituency, Modi said the Congress and others who had spread lies surrounding the incident should now apologise to the people of Gujarat.

Modi came down heavily on the appointment of the Justice U C Banerjee Committee by the Union Railway Ministry and said the committee was appointed only to serve the political interests of the Railway Minister. 8220;However, the electorate of Bihar was not convinced and voted against him,8221; he added.

8220;The Congress has used the issue to the maximum possible extent for its vote-bank politics, but it did not even have the courage to sit on the floor of the House when the report was being tabled,8221; Modi added.
