Rendezvous with fun

Chandigarh, March 9: Bored of the classroom? Just go fling yourself in the mud, play a match, paint your face or better still, your classmate8217;s face. Be creative and have fun 8230; while you bag cash prizes. That8217;s what they do at the Chandigarh College of Architecture CCA for two whole weeks. They call it ARCHO 1999.

The frolicksome fortnight combining sports from serious8217; track and field events to courtyard cricket and pithoo-garam, stage events and arty-expressive contests, began on March 1 with banner-making. Moving on to a full-fledged college athletic meet, the in-house low-key8217; affair that8217;s what the students would like to call it today moved closer to the fun8217; part, with events like face painting and kichhad kabadi.

The face-painting competition saw a large number of entries with batches of students teaming up and presenting their entries 8211; painted faces 8211; to the panel of judges. The colourful event was a big hit with the future architects, so much so that even the college principal I. J. S. Bakshi remarked to the students with their faces painted in all colours: 8220;You look better this way than you ever did. I hope you come to the classroom with the paint on.8221;

Other events marked for the remaining part of the celebrations are bread-eating, beg-borrow-steal, free-for-all and a trek from Kalka to Kasauli.
