
Reliance Industries Ltd on Wednesday announced the setting up of a software development and service centre at Kolkata. The plan was announced by Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani while inaugurating Infocomm 2004.
The new Reliance project, the first Dhirubhai Ambani Development and Service Centre in Kolkata, will directly employ 2,500 people in the next three years, said Ambani. 8220;Kolkata is endowed with huge resources of mind and intellect,8221; he said. 8220;Bengal is poised to become an active partner in this transition,8221; Ambani said.
Besides the tech and service centre, Reliance is also planning to set up Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information 038; Communication technology.
8220;I have immense faith in the youth of Kolkata, in the quality of the mind of the youth of Bengal. Reliance8217;s investment in the Infocomm sector in West Bengal is of the order of Rs 1,000 crore. I believe this is not enough,8221; said Ambani.
Ambani did not talk about the total investment though the West Bengal government has already allotted 6 acres for the tech centre project.
