
Amid resistance from Left Front partners against the entry of retail giants, Mukesh Ambani8217;s Reliance Retail is keen to rollout new stores in West Bengal.
According to sources, Reliance Delight stores, scheduled to be launched after the Pujas in October, will sell fresh fish, frozen chicken and meat. They will also sell frozen, ready-to-cook, foods of other companies.
8220;They Reliance representatives have held a preliminary talks with us for the Delight stores,8221; said a supplier.
The group had made an entry into the city in August by forging an agreement with Keventers Fresh. Sources say the company is bent on opening more stores in Kolkata. So far, Reliance Fresh has opened four stores at 8212; Swabhumi, Rajarhat, Budge Budge and Bangur.
According to industry sources, while Reliance Fresh caters to the vegetarian segment, Reliance Delight will cater only to the non-vegetarian customers.
Earlier, in 2007, Reliance Retail shelved its plan to create 1,62,000 sq ft of retail space in the city and adjacent areas due to violent protests from the Left Front partners.
It, however, did not deter the plans of the company to make a foray in the state.
