Quelling rumors that Reliance employee Anandita Mishra was killed out of frustration stemming from her refusal to enter into a relationship with main accused Jacob Pinto, Pinto in his confession to the police has claimed that the two were in fact involved in a three year long relationship. He has admitted to the police that he was frustrated because she had ended their relationship and he suspected her of being involved with someone else.
According to sub-inspector Arvind Patil of the Turbhe police the two had become friends soon after Mishra moved to Mumbai three years back and subsequently they entered into a relationship. 8220;However in 2006, Pinto was forced into an arranged marriage by his family and Mishra decided to end the relationship with him.8221;
Mishra reportedly stopped interacting with him abruptly a month before her murder, and kept ignoring his pleas for a discussion on what went wrong in their relationship. 8220;After being spurned by her, Pinto began suspecting her of having an affair with someone else. That8217;s when he began issuing threats to her and a fortnight before her murder he even barged into her house and tried to harm her with a paper cutter,8221; said Patil.
The couple had, in fact, met in private a couple of days before Mishra8217;s murder after which Pinto left for Sangli. 8220;Though Pinto8217;s parents stay in Sangli, he had not intimated them about his visit, choosing to stay at his cousin8217;s place. He then returned to Mumbai on October 16, murdered Mishra and fled to Sangli again. From there, he called his wife who works in Vashi asking her to come to Sangli,8221; said Patil.
According to the police Pinto8217;s wife was suspicious about his liaison with Mishra owing to some SMSes that she saw on her husband8217;s cell phone. While returning from Bangalore, the couple had alighted in Belgaum, after which Pinto had put her on a Sangli-bound train while he returned to Vashi.
